Trainer Bjorn Baker has confirmed his second starter for the A$15m The TAB Everest with his talented mare Shades Of Rose being selected for the 2022 Everest to contest for slot holder Bon Ho. Overpass engaged to run in the James Kennedy slot just a few days ago.
Ho had his hopes set on racing 2020 Everest winner, Classique Legend in the 2022 Everest. However, Classique Legend has been ruled out of the remainder of the spring after a lacklustre return to racing after 11 months on the sidelines.
The 7YO finished last in the unofficial Everest lead-in, The Shorts at Randwick, more than eight lengths behind winner Nature Strip.
Trainer Les Bridge has advised stewards the 2020 Everest winner is bound for the paddock after being found 3/5 lame in the near foreleg.
Baker confirmed Shades Of Rose's selection on Thursday, just 24 hours after stablemate Overpass was picked up by slot-holder James Kennedy.
"I've never had a runner in The Everest before so I'm absolutely thrilled to get two horses into the race,'' Baker said.
"There is a bit of water to flow under the bridge yet, we have about two weeks to the race, but hopefully all goes well with Shades Of Rose and Overpass and they will be ready for the big day.
A homebred for Steve and Louise Gillard that was foaled and raised at Yarraman Park, Shades of Rose has charted a meteoric rise through the grades reeling off four consecutive wins culminating in a brave win in Gr.2 ATC Sheraco Stakes.
