The Vertem Futurity Stakes, a Gr 1 race for 2YO, is the weekend's main event, giving horse racing fans a chance to see some of the sport's future stars in action at Doncaster. Despite the fact that many people still refer to it as the Racing Post Trophy, the Vertem Futurity Trophy has been a reward that the formidable Aidan O'Brien stable has consistently targeted and won ten times. The Doncaster Gr 1 on Saturday has a number of entries, and the Ballydoyle master is among them. Last year, trainer Aidan O'Brien won the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown for an incredible eleventh time, this time with Luxembourg. In 1997, jockey Michael Kinane rode O'Brien's Saratoga Springs to victory, and it wasn't long before O'Brien became a household name thanks to his victories in the race with 1999's Aristotle, 2001's High Chaparral, and 2022's Brian Boro.
St Nicholas Abbey was O’Brien’s next Vertem Futurity Stakes winner in 2009 and then added Camelot (2011) also went on to win the 2012 Epsom Derby. Kingsbarn took the race the following year in 2012 and then his more recent winners in the Doncaster race were Saxon Warrior (2017), Magna Grecia (2018) and, the already mentioned, Luxembourg 12 months ago (watch below)
