In the evening of the first day of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale on November 7 in Lexington, champion mare Midnight Bisou sold for $5.5 million to Katsumi Yoshida of Northern Farm.
Hill 'n' Dale consigned Hip 235, a filly by Midnight Bisou, who is in foal to Tapit, sire of this year's Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner Flightline. The daughter of Midnight Lute won five grade 1 races during her career, and she earned almost $7.4 million as a result. Champion mare Midnight Bisou was sold in foal to multiple leading sire Tapit, and the Japanese buyer paid the asking price of $5.5 million to get her. Yoshida found another entry he liked right away when he paid $2.7 million for the two-time group 1 winner Dreamloper. Despite Dreamloper's lacklustre performance in the Mile, she has won two group 1 races against male competition in France this year. Jouster, a grade 2-winning filly by Noble Mission, was purchased by Yoshida for $1.5 million. Jouster is related to Dynamic One, the victor of this year's Suburban Stakes (G2), and Storm Flag Flying, both champions in the Phipps line. As the day came to a close, Yoshida had spent $9.7 million on three mares, making him the session's top buyer in terms of gross. Shingo Hashimoto of Northern Farm has announced that they expect Midnight Bisou to be returned to Japan. He went to the 2020 Saudi Cup and was thrilled by Midnight Bisou's second-place performance, he said.
