In Saturday's A$1 million The Hunter at Newcastle, New Zealand, trainer John O'Shea is hopeful for his promising galloper Waihaha Falls (NZ) (Sacred Falls).
The son of Sacred Falls, who is now 5YO, is nominated by trainer John O'Shea for the Karaka 2023 Benchmark 88 Handicap on the same card as The Hunter, where he is now ranked 22nd in the order of entry among a total of sixteen runners. After I Wish I Win (NZ) (Savabeel) won the A$10 million Golden Eagle (1500m) at Royal Randwick Racecourse in New South Wales two weeks ago, this will be the second chance for a horse bred and raced at Waikato Stud to win a large reward in the state.
Waihaha Falls was bred and raced by the Chittick brothers, Mark and Garry, of Waikato Stud, with assistance from Hawke's Bay trainer Guy Lowry, who also handled the preparation of the dam, Mink. If Waihaha Falls does not enter the field for The Hunter, his apprentice Reece Jones will ride him in the Benchmark race to lower his top weight.
The talented 3YO Saveadateforme (NZ) (Savabeel), who carries the colours of syndicators Go Racing, will also be ridden by the Randwick stable at Saturday's Newcastle race. Cotehele (NZ) (Tavistock), winner of his most recent start at Rosehill, will also run in the Benchmark 88 Handicap, where he will try to add to his four career triumphs. O'Shea also stated that Kirwan's Lane (NZ), a son of Charm Spirit, who won the Hawkesbury Ladies Day Cup, is being held for the A$1 million The Gong at Kembla Grange on November 19.
