Shadwell's progressive Gr.3 champion Alflaila will not compete in Friday's £600,000 Gr.3 Bahrain International Trophy because of an injury sustained during normal work on Monday morning.
"Alflaila was having a typical canter at the racetrack at Bahrain this morning," said trainer Owen Burrows, who was set to have his maiden runner in Bahrain. John Lake, my top lad, rode him and said he was comfortable and responsive. While walking home, he realised he was lacking in height and stepped off. He returned to the stables for an X-ray, which revealed a little fracture in the left front fetlock. The operation went well, and he should be able to go home in a few weeks. The Baker McVeigh staff have taken great care of him. It's a bummer that it happened this close to the event, but at least the operation was successful and he's doing fine.
