Lord North, Panthalassa and Vin De Garde struck a memorable finish in the Group One Dubai Turf with a dead heat, which had the judges stumped for a while.
Horses were watered, jockeys clambered off their rides and trainers hung around unsure of whether they should be smiling or looking morose.
Eventually, the judges came back with a decision declaring Lord North the winner, with Panthalassa in second with Vin De Garde in third.
Yoshito Yahagi trained Panthalassa led from the start with Todd Pletcher’s Colonel Liam in hot pursuit, however with 300m to go, Lord North picked up the pace with Vin De Garde close behind.
With Yahagi already secured dual wins earlier in the day, the Japanese handler was looking forward to securing a treble.
