Godolphin homebred Mystic Guide earned his first top-level victory in spectacular fashion this past weekend when he surged to a 3 ¾-length triumph in the US$12 million Dubai World Cup at Meydan.
Weteran trainer Mike Stidham’s first-ever overseas runner proved himself a champion at Meydan when capturing the 2021 US$12m Dubai World Cup.
Under jockey, Luis Saez, the 4YO son of Ghostzapper tracked front runner Hypothetical before taking the lead 400m from home and forging clear. Japanese raider Chuwa Wizard stayed on to take second, three and three-quarter lengths behind the winner, with Godolphin’s French-based representative Magny Cours running on into third, another length and a quarter further back. The winning time was 2:01:61.
Mystic GuideMystic Guide had arrived on the back of an impressive warm-up win in the Gr.3 Razorback at Oaklawn Park.
In addition to padding his career bankroll, that win allowed the son of Ghostzapper to continue to elevate his reputation in the handicap ranks as he takes over the No. 1 spot in this week's National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) Top Thoroughbred Poll.
