Giga Kick, who is currently the reigning champion of The Everest, is getting ready for the upcoming Gr.2 McEwen Stakes, which will be held over a distance of 1000m on September 9. In order to fine-tune his readiness for the race, Giga Kick will be participating in an upcoming trial.
Trainer Clayton Douglas has observed significant growth in Giga Kick's size and strength since he transitioned from being a three-year-old. This development is a positive sign for his chances in the McEwen Stakes.
“The development has been phenomenal,” Douglas told Racing.com.
“He’s now turned a four-year-old and he’s a lot bigger and stronger and, putting it into perspective, he’s a lot heavier and what he’s done as a three-year-old you’d only think he’s better as a four-year-old.”
Giga Kick's Race Preparation: A Methodical Approach
To prepare for the race, Giga Kick will be undergoing a return jumpout at Cranbourne, followed by a trial a few days before the main event. Douglas has found that this systematic approach, which includes a relaxed trial and a more intense hit-out, has been effective in previous preparations.
While Giga Kick's main focus this spring season is on The Everest, there are still uncertainties regarding his optimal race distance. However, Douglas remains confident in the horse's abilities, especially in third-up races.
In addition to The Everest, there is also the possibility of Giga Kick participating in international races after the spring season. This reflects his potential to perform on a broader stage and showcases the confidence in his abilities.
