Set to race in The Everest slot of the TAB, the John O’Shea trained Lost And Running (Per Incanto) took his first public step to this season’s $15m sprint contest by finishing second in a 850m barrier trial last Friday behind Bjorn Baker’s super-fast Malkovich.
Ridden by regular jockey High Bowman, Lost And Runing impressed Bowman who enthused to the media post-trial.
“It’s nice to have him back,” Bowman told Sky Thoroughbred Central. “It’s the first time I’ve sat on him since the race that didn’t go to plan at Flemington.”
“It’s nice to be back on him, it’s nice to see him. He looks well and he’s enthusiastic. He had a good blow, naturally, but it’s a good start for the prep.”
Fourth in the Everest last season, when beaten just over two lengths by Nature Strip, the now 6yo gelding went on to finish second in the $1m Classique Legend Stakes behind fellow Everest contender Eduardo before winning the $1m The Hunter in November.
Relatively lightly raced for his age, recording eight wins and two second placed efforts from 14 starts, Lost And Running’s $2.3m in earnings is a significant return on investment from his $40,000 purchase price when secured as a yearling by his trainer from the draft of Blandford Lodge at the Inglis Premier yearling sale.
