With syndicator Brad Spicer confident of coming to an agreement within the coming days, we could see the sixth official runner allocated a slot in this year’s Everest to be run on October 28 at Randwick.
“The next 24 - 48 hours I think there will be an announcement and hopefully we can get it all done,” stated Spicer when chatting to the Everest Diaries recently.
A winner of the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes last campaign, the talented Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained mare resumed with an all-the-way win in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes over 1400m this time, immediately highlighting herself as a contender for the Everest.
While we have to go back a few years to see any previous Memsie form prove fruitful in the Everest, it was the David Hayes trained Vega Magic who went on to finish second in the inaugural running of the Everest behind Redzel off the back of winning the 2017 Memsie Stakes.
Another possible factor against the daughter of Choisir could be that fact that the best finisher in the five years of the race my a filly or mare was the David Hayes trained Tulip in 2027 and Chris Waller trained Hut Brion Her in 2022 who both finished fifth in their respective Everest performances.
One can speculate who the potential slot holder may be that is in the ‘running’ for the mare, but it’s hard to draw any logical parallels that would see any particular slot holders a favoured front-runner over another.
