Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr colt Jacquinot will need to overcome a tricky draw to win this Saturday’s $15m The Everest.
A get back, run-on style galloper, the three-year-old drew barrier two on Sydney Harbour on Tuesday night, with the stable earlier indicating they would’ve preferred a middle to outside gate somewhere between 5 and 10.
Nevertheless, Jacquinot heads to the world’s richest race on turf in good order, with co-trainer Michael Kent Jnr among the chorus of connections praying for favourable conditions to allow the son of Rubick to fully extend on top of the ground.
“It was obviously horrible there on Saturday, so hopefully it’s into the soft range,” Kent Jnr said.
“The forecast isn’t too bad, so I reckon you get the choppers out, the hovercrafts out and dry that track out!”
Since his brilliant win in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill three weeks ago, Jacquinot has done everything right.
“He is super, he’s had a really good few weeks,” Kent Jnr said.
“That run took a bit out of him, but he’s really bounced in the last 10 days. Mick Price is there, and he is rearing up and carrying on and having a pick of grass.”
Jacquinot is the third favourite for The Everest with Sportsbet behind world’s best sprinter Nature Strip ($1.90), and John O’Shea-trained Lost And Running ($7).
