Clayton Douglas says last Saturday’s TAB Everest winner Giga Kick (Scissor Kick) will race at Flemington during the VRC spring carnival but is yet to decide which race.
Douglas said Giga Kick has the option of the $2m Coolmore Stud Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) against his own age on October 29 or the $3m VRC Darley Champions Sprint (Gr 1, 1200m) on November 5.
Speaking on Racing.com's The Wrap on Sunday morning, Douglas said he is leaning towards the Coolmore Stud Stakes.
“He’ll be back in Melbourne on Tuesday morning. We’ll get him home and into good order. Then we’ll make a plan. If he travels well and we’re happy with him we’d probably go to the Coolmore, if not the other race. We’ll sort that out when we get home,” Douglas said, adding he spent the few hours after The Everest win in a state of disbelief.
“I spent a lot of nights dreaming that my horse had won ‑e Everest. I walked the 1200-metre start 40,000 times, I reckon!”
Giga Kick is unbeaten in five starts and took his earnings to $7,142,200 with his $6,749,000 won in The Everest. Douglas said Giga Kick demonstrated for the first time in The Everest the talent he had shown him at home and his confidence was boosted last Tuesday morning at Randwick when the gelding was so focused and professional.
“He’s one out of the box. It’s phenomenal that he could go from a Sale Maiden in February to winning ‑e Everest. He does things normal horses can’t do.”.
