The Whisperview-bred filly recovered from finishing seventh in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket to win the Irish equivalent and then the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, but the Starspangledbanner filly has been beaten by Blue Bolt on her last two starts, in the Falmouth Stakes and the Prix Rothschild at Deauville on 2 August. That run over course and distance a fortnight out gives the four-time Group One scorer's connections useful evidence of current form heading into Sunday, and she arrives rated 52 on official figures, level with Thesecretadversary and just behind Rayif's 53 among the three confirmed three-year-olds.
The Aga Khan homebred colt has three wins from four starts to his name, including the Poule d'Essai des Poulains in May — a victory that made him Aga Khan Studs' first winner of that race since Sendawar in 1999. He was last seen finishing fifth in the Gr.1 Prix Jean Prat, won by Fozzy Stack's Thesecretadversary. “He didn't run a great race last time out in the Jean Prat, but the jockeys said they didn't go very fast and Rayif wasn't up with the pace. He was dropping down in trip and it didn't happen,” said Nemone Routh, racing manager for Aga Khan Studs. “The ground was quite fast when he won on Marois day last year and we've always thought he was better on good, fast ground. He worked well on Tuesday, Francis and Mickael were both happy with him and, all being well, he will run on Sunday.”
Bow Echo's Absence Reshapes The Market
The race lost its headline attraction earlier in the week when unbeaten British champion Bow Echo was retired after sustaining a training injury. Stablemate Gstaad was also ruled out separately, with Aidan O'Brien explaining that “he got galloped into in Goodwood and he got a little bit of an infection in his hind part from it,” adding that treatment “wouldn't be out of his system in time” for Sunday. Their withdrawal leaves the field without the two horses that had dominated the season's earlier Guineas trials in Britain, and has opened the race up considerably, with the O'Brien filly stepping into the position vacated at the top of the market. “With Bow Echo and Gstaad out there's been a fairly big change in the race,” said Fozzy Stack, whose Jean Prat winner is among the beneficiaries. The Irish trainer has yet to confirm his Deauville plans, however: “I need to speak to the owners later on this evening but it's under consideration. I just left him in there today to have a look — I just need to study it a bit closer now to see what we'll do,” referring to the alternative of the Gr.1 City Of York Stakes the following weekend. Zeus Olympios, representing Karl Burke, completes a trio of leading fancies drawn from three different training bases and two different countries.
Aga Khan Studs Chase A Second Straight Deauville Feature
The Chantilly colt represents a stable already celebrating this month, after the same green silks carried Samangan to a breakthrough win in last Sunday's Gr.1 Prix Maurice de Gheest, run at the same track. Samangan, who had previously finished one place ahead of the Poule d'Essai des Poulains winner when fourth in the Prix Jean Prat, is not entered on Sunday, but the sprinter's connections are weighing a supplementary entry for the Gr.1 Sprint Cup at Haydock on 5 September, ground permitting. It continues a strong season for the operation: Graffard and Barzalona teamed up on Calandagan to land the Gr.1 Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan on 28 March 2026, the same jockey now reunited with the Aga Khan homebred for Sunday's assignment. A repeat win for the operation on Sunday would give Aga Khan Studs back-to-back Group One wins at Deauville inside a fortnight.
Japan's Twin Raiders Chase History
The rest of the confirmed field underlines the international character the race has built since joining the Breeders' Cup Challenge series in 2010, with the winner earning an invitation to that year's Breeders' Cup Mile. Japan's challenge is spearheaded by Sixpence, trained by Hiroyasu Tanaka for Carrot Farm Co. Ltd and winner of the Yasuda Kinen at Tokyo in June, with stablemate Strauss, trained by Ryo Takei, also declared. Strauss arrives off a landmark win of his own, having beaten British and Irish opposition to land the inaugural Abu Dhabi Gold Cup on 8 February 2026. Tanaka's Tokyo raider will hope to emulate Taiki Shuttle, who completed the same Yasuda Kinen and Jacques le Marois double in 1998. On official figures, the Yasuda Kinen winner is rated 53.5 and the Abu Dhabi Gold Cup winner 52, giving the Carrot Farm pair a solid platform against a field topped on rating by William Haggas's veteran miler, More Thunder, on 54.5.

The Newmarket yard, representing owner Saeed Suhail, and Karl Burke's Yorkshire stable, carrying the colours of the estate of Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum, represent the senior end of the field against a three-strong Classic generation contingent made up of the Irish Guineas winner, the Aga Khan Studs colt and Fozzy Stack's Jean Prat scorer. French interest beyond the Aga Khan Studs camp comes through three home-trained runners contesting Group One level for the first time: Dreamliner, trained by Stephane Wattel; No Lunch, trained by Christophe Ferland for Wertheimer & Frere; and Sir Tommy Cen, the outsider of the trio on official figures, trained by Patrick Olave Valdivielso for Yeguada Centurion SLU.
