Wave Rider And Westridge Renew Rivalry At Bahrain

Two-Day Festival Features Elite International Competition

This distinguished two-day festival, taking place on January 29 and 30, 2026, showcases exceptional races and elite international competitions at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club. The programme includes the HRH The Crown Prince's Cup for Imported Horses (Listed) over 2,000 metres with total prize money of US$200,000, which headlines the second day of the festival.

The opening day hosts the Bahrain Turf Series fixture four, featuring two prestigious races, the Hawar Cup and the Anchorman Cup, each offering prize money of US$80,000. The festival offers refined hospitality, diverse entertainment for visitors at the vibrant Turf Village, and a Best Dressed competition with valuable prizes for the winners.

The Bahrain Turf Club racing season runs every weekend from 31 October 2025 to 17 April 2026, featuring 29 racedays, with each day hosting up to 10 races.

Anchorman Cup Heads Quality Programme (US$80,000)

The Anchorman Cup over one mile two furlongs represents the most valuable prize on the card with 15 runners assembled. Westridge finished third in December, beaten one and a half lengths over course and distance. The gelding by Blue Point has won three times from a mile to one mile two furlongs on good to firm and good ground.

Wave Rider arrives wearing a tongue tie for the first time after his neck second over course and distance in December. Scott's charge won twice at one mile two furlongs on contrasting ground, demonstrating versatility. Phoenix Passion adds quality following his third place finish over one mile two furlongs earlier this month, beaten three and a half lengths. The Fawzi Nass-trained gelding has won seven races from a mile to one mile three furlongs.

Hot Dancer represents Ali Abdulmajeed, having finished eighth of 16 over one mile two furlongs earlier this month. Slieve Binnian finished fifth over one mile two furlongs earlier this month for D Marnane. Salamanca Lad brings course and distance form for J Ramadhan, though he finished eighth of nine over one mile two furlongs earlier this month.

Wave Rider And Westridge Renew Rivalry

Wave Rider and Westridge clash in the Anchorman Cup, with both having finished in the placings last time out. The George Scott-trained Wave Rider was beaten a neck in December over this course and distance, whilst Westridge, handled by D & C Kubler, finished third beaten one and a half lengths at the same meeting. Both horses possess strong credentials at one mile two furlongs.

Hawar Cup Attracts Large Sprint Field (US$80,000)

The Hawar Cup over six furlongs has attracted 18 runners with significant prize money. Another Baar scored at the track earlier this month, beating his rival by a length over six furlongs. A Keatley's charge has won nine races from five furlongs to six furlongs on varying ground conditions.

Dream Out Loud won over six furlongs earlier this month when beating his rival by three quarters of a length when favourite. The J Ramadhan-trained gelding has won four times from five furlongs to six furlongs. Blue Day scored over course and distance earlier this month, beating Spangled Mac by half a length for George Scott.

Commanche Falls finished second over course and distance earlier this month, beaten four lengths. M Dods's charge has won 12 races at six furlongs though his last win came over two years ago. Spangled Mac represents G Boughey, having finished second to Blue Day when beaten just half a length over course and distance earlier this month. Roman Dragon brings course and distance form for H Palmer, having won nine races from five furlongs to six furlongs. Up The Pace represents D & C Kubler on his first run for the new stable, wearing a tongue tie and cheekpieces for the first time.

Domestic Gr.1 Bahrain Oaks Provides Fillies Showcase (US$20,000)

The Bahrain Oaks over one mile one furlong represents the day's feature for Bahrain-bred fillies, attracting seven runners. Wanisa, trained by H Ebrahim, scored at the track over course and distance earlier this month, beating Illuminate by one and a half lengths. The filly by Blockchain produced a determined performance at longer odds.

Illuminate returns for another crack at the winner, having placed in three of seven career starts. Paul Smith's filly finished second to Wanisa last time and represents solid form. Evergreen, handled by D & C Kubler, finished third in December, beaten two lengths over course and distance when sent off favourite.

Perast adds depth following her third place finish behind Wanisa earlier this month, beaten five lengths. Fawzi Nass's filly won over one mile one furlong previously. Intelligence, also trained by the Kubler team, disappointed when sixth behind Wanisa last time, beaten eight lengths. Mind Your Manners finished fourth behind Wanisa earlier this month for Paul Smith, beaten six lengths. Anfal completes the field for Osama Hashim.

Investcorp Cup Sees Recent Winner (US$12,000)

The Investcorp Cup over one mile four furlongs features eight runners, with Malakye bidding to follow up his November victory. Ahmed Al Sadah's charge won over one mile two furlongs, beating his rival by one and three quarter lengths. The gelding by Elzaam has recorded four career victories from one mile two furlongs to one mile four furlongs.

Refreshment arrives wearing cheekpieces for the first time after finishing second earlier this month, beaten three lengths over one mile two furlongs. The J Ramadhan-trained runner has won twice at a mile. Young Ireland also represents the same stable, having finished third over one mile two furlongs earlier this month, beaten two lengths.

Tartan Chief brings course and distance form for Ali Abdulmajeed, having won four times from a mile to one mile four furlongs. Bleak adds quality having won five races from seven furlongs to one mile four furlongs. Knight Of Honour represents Ali Abdulmajeed with seven career victories from one mile one furlong to one mile six furlongs.

Gulf Air Cup (US$8,000)

The Gulf Air Cup over six furlongs is restricted to purebred Arabians competing under WAHO rules in this maiden contest, attracting 15 runners. Yousif Alboainain saddles four of the field, including Kuheilan Aladiyat, Mlolshan, Musannan, and Kuheilan Aafas, giving the trainer a strong hand in this conditions event. Adel Abdulla is triple-handed with Krushan 1926, Al Hamdany, and Al Suwaitieh, whilst Yousif Taher sends out Al Saqlawy 1934 and Al Ma'anagy. Abdulla Kuwaiti runs Obeyan and Al Shuwaimeh in his bid for success in the Arabian contest.

Lexus Cup Opens Wednesday Programme (US$8,000)

The Lexus Cup Handicap opens proceedings over one mile three furlongs, attracting 14 runners. Al Yateem arrives fresh from victory at the track earlier this month when beating Bairaq by a neck over one mile four furlongs. H Ebrahim's gelding now tackles a slightly shorter trip.

Hattaab comes into the contest following victory over course and distance in December when accounting for December by a length. Abdulla Kuwaiti's runner has won at one mile one furlong and one mile three furlongs on good to firm ground. December himself possesses course and distance form and carries stable confidence from Ali Abdulmajeed.

Bint Al Jazeera finished first over one mile three furlongs here in April last year, beating Hattaab by half a length, making this a rematch. Aajay represents Robert McDowall having finished fifth behind Hattaab over course and distance in December. Majarah finished third over course and distance earlier this month for Abdulla Kuwaiti.

Bahrain Jewellery Centre Cup Attracts Quality (US$8,000)

The Bahrain Jewellery Centre Cup over seven furlongs has drawn 18 runners. Call Of Duty seeks to build on his December victory when winning by eight lengths as favourite. Paul Smith's charge by Call To Mind has shown consistent form at the track.

Ezz Albahrain finished second over seven furlongs earlier this month, beaten one and a quarter lengths. Ahmed Al Sadah's mare has won at six furlongs on good to firm ground. Asaaff, trained by Abdulla Kuwaiti, finished second over a mile earlier this month and now drops back in trip.

Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cup Features Depth (US$8,000)

Eighteen runners line up for the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cup over one mile. Jarham finished second over one mile earlier this month, beaten four lengths. The Fawzi Nass-trained gelding has placed in five of 13 starts.

Eighth Avenue finished third over one mile earlier this month, beaten four and a half lengths. The filly by Starspangledbanner won over six furlongs previously. Alabrar represents Osama Hashim, having finished second over six furlongs earlier this month, beaten half a length.

Anwaar returns after finishing fifth over six furlongs. The Ali Abdulmajeed-trained filly won over seven furlongs previously. The Bahrain Bred Handicap over five furlongs features 11 runners. Members Only finished fifth over course and distance earlier this month. Taleb Ali's charge won over five furlongs previously.
