Twelve wins and defending champion.
The UAE 1000 Guineas has proven to be Saeed bin Suroor’s masterclass with Godolphin’s lead and longest serving trainer holding the record as leading trainer for the major race.
This Friday, the UAE 1000 Guineas Trial will held and run over 1400m as the most valuable race on the Meydan card at AED183,650.
Bin Suroor prepares the 2YO filly Deep Thoughts who is a three-race maiden in the contest to battle it out in the field of 11.
A contest for the fillies to show what they can do on the track with trainer Doug Watson sending out a pair in Awasef and Asawer.
Both owned by Al Rashid Racing, they were first and third for their first career starts and under Oscar Chavez and Sam Withcott this time around will be ready to compete.
Awasef won by two lengths at Meydan with Pat Dobbs on board in her first start forty days ago, and trainer Watson was impressed by the performance,
“Awasef, who won the first time, was really professional,” said Watson.
“She travelled well, had a lot of speed and finished off the race great. Asawer broke OK and then got squeezed and I really haven’t seen an older horse or a two-year-old do what she did that night. She was last turning in and weaved her way through there; took the kickback. I think she’ll learn from that and if she can keep herself in the race early, she’ll be tough. The further we go, the better she’s going to get.”
Asawer ran third in her first start with Dobbs on board again with Here we Are winning on that occasion, after going down to Awasef twenty days prior.
Julio Olascoaga preps the top weight in Jewel Genie Lamp who must carry four and a half kilos to her rivals due to being a Southern Hemisphere-bred three-year-old.
Bred in Brazil the daughter of Drosselmeyer was second in the Uruguay 1000 Guineas in August and returns to the track after a 110 break.
“She’s a super nice filly from Uruguay,” said the trainer.
“We’ve been aiming her at this for a long time. We’re expecting a very good run, which will also be preparation for the Carnival, for the UAE 1000 Guineas and the Oaks.”
Olascoaga also prepares 2YO Emirates Voice who has had two runs previously with a third and fourth finish showing improvement in her runs. The daughter of the Australian sire Brazen Beau and the Irish Great Smile, the filly returns to the track 62 days after her last start.
Rounding out the field is the Bhupat Seemar trained Bijjlee, Bin Harmash trained Habooba and Ismail Mohammed owned and trained Home from Home who ran second in her only ever career start three weeks ago.
Last year’s edition of the trial was won by Shahama who would go on to win the feature for trainer Fawzi Abdulla Naas with Adrie de Vries on board.
