Frankie Dettori is eagerly embracing the lively atmosphere reminiscent of the Ryder Cup as he gets ready to partake in a number of high-profile races at this year's Breeders' Cup event held at Santa Anita.
There was speculation that the Italian jockey's recent retirement announcement would put an end to his high-profile fixture, but he recently changed his mind. As a result, racing fans in California can look forward to seeing more of him during the Christmas period and next year as he prepares to relocate to the United States permanently.
This weekend, the 52YO has several high-quality rides lined up, including Aidan O'Brien's Unquestionable in Friday's Juvenile Turf, Inspiral in the Filly & Mare Turf, and King Of Steel in the Turf on Saturday.
Furthermore, Dettori will be partnering with American trainer Chad Brown's Zandon in the Breeders' Cup Classic. Despite this, he sees himself as part of the visiting team.
"The Breeders' Cup has a Ryder Cup atmosphere and I'm proud to be representing Europe," he said trackside on Thursday morning.
"I'm looking forward to riding back here for the first day of the meet on Boxing Day."
Of Zandon, Dettori added, "He is a solid, staying horse who finished third in the Kentucky Derby (last year).
"I've ridden for Chad a few times, but I won't ride the colt before Saturday.
"I thought he looked good when he won the Woodward last time."
