The Australian Turf Club has received a total of 2,094 first nominations for the Gr.1 US$5 million Golden Slipper, set to be run at Rosehill Gardens on March 22, 2025.
This year’s nominations include 1,059 fillies and 1,035 colts and geldings from stables across Australia for the 69th edition of the prestigious Sydney race.
Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott lead the way with the highest number of nominations, boasting 159 entries (76 fillies and 83 colts) as they aim to further etch their names in the record books for the world’s richest race for two-year-olds. Gai Waterhouse holds the record for the most wins as a trainer in the Golden Slipper’s history with eight victories, including two with co-trainer Adrian Bott, the most recent being last year with the filly Lady Of Camelot.
Godolphin, with trainers operating across dual states including James Cummings in Sydney, has made 110 nominations (54 fillies and 56 colts).
Following closely are Australia’s top trainers: Ciaron Maher with 98 nominations (53 fillies and 45 colts) and Chris Waller with 91 nominations (39 fillies and 52 colts).
Leading the sires in terms of nominations are I Am Invincible with 96 entries (54 fillies and 42 colts), Snitzel with 90 entries (50 fillies and 40 colts), Zoustar with 81 entries (35 fillies and 46 colts), and the 2016 Golden Slipper champion Capitalist with 80 entries (44 fillies and 36 colts).
Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering Nevesh Ramdhani said the Golden Slipper remained like no other race in the world.
“The owners, connections and trainers of 2094 horses have taken the next step on a journey towards a life-changing moment.
“Like no other race the US$5 million Golden Slipper shapes Australian racing and breeding and is the career dream of every owner, trainer and jockey when a yearling and then 2YO joins a stable.
“It is also very pleasing to see the top lots from our great partners Inglis and their Easter sale all nominated.’’
