Ramatuelle, the high-class 3YO trained by Christopher Head, is heading to the breeding paddocks after Coolmore secured her for US$5.1m at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale on Monday.
The daughter of Justify proved herself a force at the highest level, notching four victories from nine starts whilst never finishing out of the frame. Her Classic campaign included a creditable third in the Gr.1 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, followed by another bronze in the Gr.1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Signing off in style, she claimed her crowning achievement with a commanding display in the Gr.1 Prix de la Foret at ParisLongchamp last month. The filly was subsequently withdrawn from the Gr.1 Breeders' Cup Mile on veterinary grounds.
Previous Prix de la Foret winners include Goldikova (2010), who went on to land multiple Group One successes including the Breeders' Cup Mile, and Moonlight Cloud (2013), who later captured the Prix Maurice de Gheest.
MV Magnier, representing the successful purchasers, outlined future plans: "We had to retire Opera Singer as well, so I think what we will do is send the two of them to Wootton Bassett next year.
That's what the guys want to do at the moment anyway, so I would say that is most likely what will happen."
The November Sale saw other notable transactions, with Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf victress Moira commanding US$4.3m, whilst Grade One heroine McKulick topped proceedings at US$6m.
