Sirileo Miss, trained by Symon Wilde of Warrnambool, will run for the third time on Saturday in the Listed Ballarat Cup.She was the front-runner the front-runner and heavy favourite in the Gr.1 Australasian Oaks at Morphettville when she was 3YO, and she was again the front-runner and heavy favourite in the Gr.2 Matriarch Stakes on the last day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington.
According to Wilde, a "speed gene test" on Sirileo Miss indicated that the 2000-meter distance would be the best fit for the mare.
Wilde explained to RSN that the trouble they encountered with the horse in the beginning of her career was that "she was quite a hot filly, and she overdid it in a number of her races."
She is settling better than she ever has, and we attribute it to the crossover noseband we put on her.
With this preparation, we'll hopefully have a higher chance of getting more attempts at that distance and, with any luck, a positive outcome.
Wilde said he wouldn't mind a little more rain before Saturday's race, despite the fact that five of Sirileo Miss' seven wins to far had come on decent tracks.
The track was classified a Heavy 8 as of Saturday's acceptance time, and rain is expected later in the day.
Wilde remarked, "She can handle all conditions, but I suppose on a thick track it would delay a few of the others."
She's in fine shape on a variety of courses.
As it will be her second attempt at 2000 metres this preparation, she should run much better than she did at the Spring Carnival. "It was a fantastic win at Caulfield on soft ground, so I'm hoping it probably rains.
Although the competition in the Ballarat Cup appears to be stiff, "I think if she gets a beautiful run and we get a little bit of rain, we'll have a good opportunity."
