Lindsay Park's Ben & Jd Hayes are considering entering their promising 3YO Angry Skies in the Gr.2 Sandown Guineas after he showed he was not ready for a rest.
After placing 10th in a Listed 1400m race for 3YOs at Flemington on the penultimate day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Angry Skies has not competed since September, when he won his first race, a Swan Hill maiden.
He had previously finished second in the Listed Gothic Stakes at Caulfield, where he had chased down the winning Godolphin galloper Sandpaper but ultimately fallen just short. J D Hayes has stated that Angry Skies' most recent attempt had valid justifications, so the stable is willing to give the 3YO a go at the $300,000 purse that will be awarded on Saturday.
Though the colt's two finest performances have come on the damaged terrain, Hayes does not believe Angry Skies to be a dedicated wet tracker. Precipitation is expected at Caulfield until about midweek, when things should dry off. Hayes added that Angry Skies had proven to the stable that he was just as comfortable galloping on the ground as he was in the air. "He's a lightly raced, good-looking, well-put-together colt and the Sandown Guineas has come around at precisely the right time," said Hayes.
