Yibir, the Breeders' Cup winner, aims to build on a successful debut in the staying category as he competes in the Listed Coral Marathon at Sandown Park, UK, on Friday, 7 July, despite returning to the two-mile distance.
Yibir's Journey To Staying Success
He showed promise in the Gr.1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, finishing sixth and 10 lengths behind the winner, Courage Mon Ami.
Prior to his debut in the staying category, Yibir, the Breeders' Cup winner, had mainly competed over a mile and a half, securing four victories at this distance, including an impressive win in the 2021 G1 Breeders' Cup Turf at Del Mar.
His trainer Charlie Appleby said, “We have been happy with Yibir since the Gold Cup, which was a good first effort over a proper staying trip. We were encouraged with what we saw that day and dropping back to two miles should suit. If he can build on his last run, he should be very competitive.”
