Goldman, a star stayer, is prepared to elevate his pursuit of the Melbourne Cup. Overpass, a hopeful for Everest, has reached a new level. Additionally, the unbeaten colt Ozzmosis is considered "potentially one of the best horses" they have ever had.
Spring Carnival Dreams: Darby Racing Aims High
Darby Racing is gearing up for the upcoming spring carnival, with director Scott Darby aiming high for his Golden Slipper-winning syndicator. They are set to compete in some of the biggest races in Sydney and Melbourne, starting with Goldman's public appearance on Friday.
Goldman, trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, will take a crucial step towards the Melbourne Cup by participating in a 1000m trial at Rosehill Gardens on Friday.
Having already qualified for the race by winning the Listed Roy Higgins at Flemington, Goldman is currently one of the favorites at $11, alongside Vauban.
"It's pretty exciting and will be interesting to see how he comes back but all reports are that he is going well," Darby said.
"He will only be up here for a couple of runs or the whole preparation will be down in Melbourne.
"He will definitely trial up here and then he will either kick off here or Melbourne."
"He has actually been in work for quite some time. They want to have a real, strong, slow build-up to the carnival with him and get all that groundwork in.
"They are looking at getting him fifth up in the Melbourne Cup."
Overpass is a top contender vying for one of the few remaining spots in this year's A$20m The TAB Everest, which will take place at Royal Randwick on October 14.
The talented son of Vancouver recently finished just half a length behind last year's Everest champion Giga Kick in the Doomben 10,000 in May. Since then, Overpass has returned to training at Baker's Warwick Farm stable.
The unbeaten colt Ozzmosis, sired by Zoustar, has notched up two victories in his previous outings, showcasing his brilliance at Gosford and Randwick. Recognizing his potential, Newgate Farm has acquired a share in this promising young talent.
"He looks super and has developed a bit more," Darby said.
"He is probably one of our most exciting horses and potentially one of the best horses we‘ve ever had so we will see how he goes.
"We won't get ahead of ourselves but he looks very promising."
King Frankel, a Group One placegetter, will be making his first public appearance under the guidance of Annabel Neasham during the upcoming trial, alongside Goldman. Neasham has taken over the training of this talented import following Mark Newnham's move to Hong Kong.
"He will have a soft trial on Friday. It is his first outing back for the new stable but all reports are good," Darby said.
"He galloped (on Tuesday) morning with Manbehindthemoney and went really well.
"His fitness levels are starting to come to hand and he is another exciting horse.
"I would say possibly the Caulfield Cup will be his target. Mark (Newnham) stretched him out to a Sydney Cup and was really confident he would run 3200m.
"I think at this stage up to 2400m."
