Nostrum, the thrilling 3YO, has been included in the confirmations for the Qatar Sussex Stakes. There is a possibility that Nostrum might face Paddington at Goodwood.
After being unsuccessful as the favorite in the Dewhurst Stakes nine months ago, the Juddmonte colt made a triumphant comeback by winning a Listed race at the Newmarket July meeting. He displayed excellent form, finishing three lengths ahead of his competitors. This victory indicated that he was ready to compete in Group One company once again.
The Ultimate Test: Nostrum vs. Paddington In Sussex Stakes
If Nostrum needed more time to recover from his recent exertions, trainer Sir Michael Stoute had the option of entering him in the Prix Jacques Le Marois on August 14.
However, Nostrum has been confirmed to participate in next Wednesday's Sussex, which could potentially lead to a showdown with Aidan O'Brien's Paddington. Paddington has achieved a remarkable feat of winning three consecutive Group One races - the Irish 2,000 Guineas, St James's Palace Stakes, and Coral-Eclipse - since May.
Coral has confirmed Queen Anne's second Inspiral for a race in which Paddington is the 1-2 favorite.
Coral spokesman David Stevens said, "After three successive top-level wins, Paddington is a red-hot favourite to make it four in a row in next week's Qatar Sussex Stakes, although just how short the Ballydoyle colt is sent off will depend on whether or not Inspiral and Nostrum line up against him at Goodwood.
"If neither of the pair takes up the challenge, Paddington's odds could get somewhere near the 1-6 Baaeed was sent off at in last year's Sussex."
