A family residing in Kirkby, Merseyside, had their hopes set on attending the St Leger meeting in Doncaster. This dream was ignited by the success of their first-ever owned horse, Nellie Leylax, who triumphed for the third time in just five races at the 7f nursery event in Haydock on Sunday.
The talented colt, owned by Millennial Racing, overcame the challenge of carrying top weight on the heavy ground, thanks to the skilled riding of Pierre-Louis Jamin. Now, the family is contemplating entering Nellie Leylax in the prestigious Gr.2 Champagne Stakes scheduled for next month.
"He's entered in the Champagne at Doncaster and if the ground is soft we'll give it a go – why not?" said syndicate member Craig Burkert.
"We paid €20,000 for him and he's won three out of five now. It's a brilliant experience as he's the first horse we've owned. We could own another 20 and might not get one as good."
