Desert Crown, unfortunately, suffered a severe fetlock injury on Sunday that has ended their season. They will be undergoing surgery to address the injury.
A 4YO colt, trained by Sir Michael Stoute and a winner of last year's Derby, sustained an injury while being put through his paces on the Al Bahathri gallop in preparation for the Juddmonte International Stakes at York.
Setbacks Continue To Plague Colt's Career
The horse was immediately transferred to the Newmarket Equine Hospital, where he will undergo an operation. The son of Nathaniel has had a career plagued by setbacks and has been seen just once since his Epsom triumph, losing his unbeaten record to Hukum in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes in May.
He subsequently missed the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot due to a setback and was prevented from having a rematch with Hukum in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes last month due to a leg infection. Unfortunately, this latest injury will rule the colt out for the rest of the season, and his racing career is now uncertain.
“I’ve just been to see him and they will operate this morning,” said Bruce Raymond, racing manager for owner Saeed Suhail.
“It is a fetlock injury and he won’t be running again this year, that’s for sure.”
