TAB Everest contender, Mazu has swiftly overcome any remaining lameness issues and successfully completed his final barrier trial before the A$20 million spectacle.
After the trial, Triple Crown syndications, who hold a slot for The Everest, shared their satisfaction with Mazu's performance on social media. Mazu was was added to the star-studded trial held on the Rosehill course proper at the last moment.
He trailed behind Overpass, received a powerful hit from Tommy Berry and finished just 1-¼ lengths behind the winner. All in all, the trial which consisted of a consisted of a 1000m run was a good test for Mazu.
Chriss Waller-trained Shinzo managed to sneak into third place, leaving In Secret, Fangirl, and Buenos Noches behind. Think It Over finished out at the back, but wasn't asked to put in any extra effort.
Unfortunately, trainers Peter and Paul Snowden had to withdraw Mazu from the important Premiere Stakes race last Saturday due to a minor injure. Their stable star responded well to chiropractic treatment. However, despite these positive developments, Peter Snowden, is still unsure about what happened with Mazu last Saturday.
"We worked him at 4am, he was sound and in good shape,'' Snowden said.
"Then he was trotted up later in the morning and everything was fine. It wasn't until we pulled him out of his box to take him to the races early in the afternoon that he walked out 2/5 lame.
Snowden ordered Mazu undergo some chiropractic treatment and the $6.9 million prizemoney earner responded immediately.
"It was like everything was pulled back in line and he was fine by Sunday. The good thing is we haven't had to treat him with any medication,'' the champion trainer said.
But Snowden conceded missing the Premiere Stakes is not ideal and will instruct race jockey Tommy Berry to give Mazu a solid hitout in the Rosehill trial.
The stewards were given clearance by the veterinary team at Snowden stable for the sprinter to participate in the Rosehill trial which he has successfully completely in the run up to the TAB Everest.
In the meantime, King's Gambit, a talented 3YO from Team Snowden, had an exhibition gallop at Warwick Farm on Monday and is set to take on some tough competition in the Roman Consul Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
