Lost And Running, the star speedster, has been retired after a disappointing performance in the US$1m Gr.2 Premiere Stakes at Randwick. The horse had won last year's edition of the Premiere Stakes and had registered nine race wins from 21-career starts for trainer John O'Shea, earning US$4.3m for connections over his career.
Born in 2015, Lost And Running was the son of Per Incanto and won his first four career starts. However, his breakout wins in 2021 included the US$1m The Hunter feature at Newcastle. He then went on to win the Gr.3 Southern Cross Stakes in 2022 at Randwick.
Unfortunately, Lost And Running's form took a hit when he resumed this spring in the US$1m Gr.2 The Shorts, where he beat only one runner home in the 12-horse field. This left his connections with no choice but to retire the now 7YO.
Lost And Running was a US$40,000 purchase at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in 2018. Although his retirement comes as a disappointment to his fans, the horse had a successful career and was loved by his connections and trainer.
"We look forward to finding him a fantastic home going forward," O'Shea said.
