The list of contenders for the prestigious title of Cartier Horse of the Year has narrowed down to four impressive horses. Among them are the undefeated Ace Impact, who triumphed in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, and Auguste Rodin, an impressive winner of the Breeders' Cup Turf on Saturday. The winner will be announced on Thursday.
On Monday, the nominations for the 33rd Cartier Racing Awards were revealed. The awards ceremony will take place at the Dorchester Hotel in London. Ace Impact and Auguste Rodin will be facing Mostahdaf, the Prince of Wales's Stakes and Juddmonte International winner, as well as Paddington, the star 3YO, for the main award.
The Cartier Horse Of The Year is not the only category; there are seven other equine categories which will acknowledge the season's best older horse, sprinter, stayer, 3YO colt and filly, and the leading male and female juveniles.
The ceremony will also honor Filly & Mare Turf winner Inspiral, King George hero Hukum, Arc runner-up Westover, and Mostahdaf in the older horse category. Sprint honours will be contested by Art Power, Highfield Princess, Live In The Dream, and Shaquille, all of whom are Group One winners.
The 2YO colt award will be contested by Star juvenile City Of Troy, stablemate Henry Longfellow, and top-level scorers Rosallion and Vandeek. Meanwhile, Fallen Angel, Opera Singer, Porta Fortuna, and Ylang Ylang are vying for the equivalent prize for fillies.
In addition, the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Award of Merit will be presented to an individual or individuals who, in the view of the 16-strong Cartier jury, have made the greatest contribution to European racing and/or breeding, either over their lifetime or in the past 12 months.
The equine prizes will be determined by a combination of points earned by horses in Pattern races throughout the season, as well as the opinions of a panel of racing journalists/handicappers and votes from readers of the Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph, which were closed on 31st October.
