On Friday, 22 December, the talented 3YO Measured Time achieved a notable victory in the Gr.2 Al Rashidiya at Meydan, UAE. This Group-race win marks a significant milestone in Measured Time's progression. The performance was both impressive and convincing, showcasing the potential of this young and promising horse.
The Dubai debut of the half-brother to Rebel's Romance was quite impressive as he had already won three out of his four starts in the UK. The colt was seen at the forefront throughout the nine-furlong race and contested the early running for William Buick. He then settled in second place, tracking Wirko.
Moving up on the outside of Measured Time, Goemon took the lead half a mile from home, as Wirko began to fade with just three furlongs left. Measured Time quickly took the lead just inside the two-furlong pole, and the Charlie Appleby-trained colt effortlessly stretched clear, hitting the line three and a quarter lengths in front of Erzindjan.
Despite being squeezed while leaving the stalls, Ottoman Fleet made a remarkable comeback and closed well from the rear to take third place, a further three-quarters of a length back.
Charlie Appleby said, “We were pleased with the performance of Measured Time and the plan is to hopefully head to the Gr.1 Jebel Hatta at the end of January.”
William Buick added, “Measured Time is a good horse, full of promise. He is growing up all the time and today was a new test for him, having never been to Meydan before. This was another tick in the box and his ability is there for all to see.
“He has a lot of speed, although I think he will stay. He has a huge stride like his brother Rebel’s Romance and you never feel like the race is going fast enough for him – he has a great cruising speed.”
