James Culver believed that he had found an extraordinary horse when he bought Mucho Macho Man for US$30,000 from breeders Carole and John Rio. This Florida-bred horse went on to have an outstanding career, ultimately winning the prestigious 2013 Breeders' Cup Classic. By the end of his career, Mucho Macho Man had earned over US$5.6 million in prize money.
Hoist the Gold, a homebred for Culver's Dream Team One Racing Stable, is being pointed towards the US$3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes which is scheduled to take place on 27th January at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida. The 5YO son of Mineshaft and the Tapit mare Tacit Approval is Dallas Stewart's latest star horse and has already proven his worth in the sport.
Hoist the Gold comes off a front-running, 4 1/2-length victory in the Gr.2 Cigar Mile Handicap held on 2nd December at Aqueduct. This was his second Grou Two triumph in his last three starts, having won the Phoenix Stakes in October, and finishing sixth in the Gr.1 Breeders' Cup Sprint in November at Santa Anita Park.
Tacit Approval is the only broodmare that Culver's group owns, and the success of Hoist the Gold is a testament to the quality of the mare. The horse has run at 11 different tracks and has a record of five wins, six seconds, and three thirds from 26 starts with earnings of US$1,119,547. Culver has a lot of hope from Hoist the Gold to bring him success in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes.
