The Royal Equestrian & Horseracing Club (REHC), together with Mazad and Tattersalls, is thrilled to announce the second edition of the Club's Horse Auction. This much-awaited auction event is set to take place on Tuesday, February 13th, ahead of the H.H. Sh. Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup on 16th February. Building on the success of the previous event in 2023, the REHC will once again host a sale for racehorses currently in training, providing owners with the opportunity to purchase and sell horses through auction. As the Kingdom's leading provider of auction services, Mazad will oversee all transactions, while Harvey Bell from Tattersalls, a company with a rich history of horse selling dating back to 1766, will conduct the auction.
At last year's auction, more than 50 horses were made available for sale, and out of those, 34 were sold, generating a total turnover of BHD 53,250. The star of the show was Lyra (BH), which sold for BHD 6,000. Since the sale, Wahaaj(BH) was purchased by Hassan Al Jaboori from Al Nuwayef Racing for BHD 3,000 and has won twice this season, making him one of the success stories of the auction. Similarly, Ibn Arabi(IRE) was purchased by Al Nasser Syndicate from Al Afoo Racing for just BHD 1,500, and has gone on to win and recently placed 5th in the $80,000 Al Riffa Cup, which is part of the Bahrain Turf Series.
This year’s catalog is set to be published on February 6th.
Yusuf Buheji, CEO of the Rashid Equestrian & Horseracing Club said: “We are proud to be part of this initiative, which utilizes the experience and expertise of our valued partners, Mazad and Tattersalls. Thanks to our partnership with Mazad we can offer an opportunity to owners in Bahrain to buy and sell horses in an environment where they can have complete confidence in the transparency and fairness of the sale.
“We are also delighted to once again welcome Harvey Bell from Tattersalls as auctioneer for the sale. Tattersalls is Europe’s largest auction house for Thoroughbreds and has a rich history in the sector.
Mazad’s CEO Talal Aloraifi said: “It gives us great pleasure to be organizing the second edition of the much-anticipated REHC Horse Auction in association with the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club. Our collaboration with the REHC combines our collective expertise and dedication to further enhance and grow the horseracing sector in Bahrain through the provision of a trusted and fair auction process.”
And Harvey Bell, Associate Director of Bloodstock at Tattersalls, added: “It will be an honor to again assist the Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club in delivering their horses in training sale. The building of relationships with recognized international organizations such as the REHC is of great importance and value to Tattersalls. Year on year we are seeing the growth of horseracing in Bahrain, both in terms of the quality of horse racing and new investors coming into the sport and Tattersalls’ graduates have always enjoyed conspicuous success in the Kingdom.”
