Liberty Island, the reigning 3YO filly champion in Japan, is getting ready for the Gr.1 Dubai Sheema Classic on March 30, and she had a half-mile workout on at Ritto Training Center. The workout was timed at :52.9 over the uphill track, and it was her second official workout since she returned to training.
Liberty Island hasn't raced since November 2023 when she finished second to Equinox, the 2023 Japanese Horse of the Year, in the Gr.1 Japan Cup. After her 2023 campaign, she went to the Shigaraki Branch of Northern Farm for a 2 1/2-month break.
Liberty Island, who was bred by Sunday Racing and is trained by Mitsumasa Nakauchida, had an outstanding 2023 season, winning all three legs of the Japanese Filly Triple Crown: the Gr.1 Oka Sho, Gr.1 Yushun Himba, and Gr.1 Shuka Sho. Before her Filly Triple Crown attempt, she was named the champion 2YO filly of 2022 after winning the Gr.1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies.
Liberty Island will travel to Dubai for the World Cup Carnival on 21st March, along with other Japanese runners such as Shahryar, the winner of the Dubai Sheema Classic in 2022, and Gr.1 winners Stars On Earth and Justin Palace.
