Bahraini jockey Hussain Asghar is poised to create history this weekend as he competes in a prestigious international horserace in France.
The 21-year-old will make history as the first jockey trained at Bahrain’s Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) to participate at the global level, as announced by REHC yesterday.
Asghar is set to ride alongside other aspiring young jockeys from around the world at the ‘Prix Together for Racing International – European Association of Racing Schools Final’, which will take place at Deauville Racecourse in Normandy, France on Saturday.
Joining a 16-strong field of up-and-coming jockeys from the US, the UK, Germany, South Korea, and other countries, Asghar was nominated to compete by REHC due to the remarkable progress he has made since commencing his jockey training in 2021.
“I am incredibly excited and honoured to be the first Bahraini jockey invited to compete in this prestigious event at Deauville,” Asghar said. “It is a dream come true for me and a significant milestone in my career.
“I am grateful to Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club for their unwavering support and for believing in my potential.” Asghar is recognised as one of the most talented jockeys born in Bahrain. Last season, he had close to 100 rides, which included the prestigious Al Methaq Mile, and he has nine wins to date in his career.
“To represent Bahrain on the international stage is a privilege and I am looking forward to showcasing the talent and hard work of Bahraini jockeys,” Asghar added. “This opportunity motivates me to continue striving for excellence and making my country proud.”
The upcoming event marks the 10th edition of the 'Prix Together for Racing International – European Association of Racing Schools Final'.
The race covers a distance of 2,500 meters and is specifically tailored for apprentices and young jockeys under 25 years old who have completed their training at a racing school. To qualify, riders must have participated in a minimum of 10 public rides and achieved a maximum of 15 wins.
In addition to the race, young jockeys will have the unique opportunity to receive guidance from seasoned French professional jockeys during a morning training session in Deauville.
For Ashgar, competing in the international race is a significant milestone in his career as it provides the chance to race abroad against some of the finest young jockeys from around the world.
This event highlights REHC's commitment to nurturing the skills of Bahraini jockeys. This dedication is further illustrated by the recent update about three young jockeys enrolling in an extensive month-long training program at the British Racing School in Newmarket, England.
