Tatterstall went gate to wire in the Coral Racing Club Handicap, making all the running and clinging on bravely for a narrow victory over five furlongs.
Sticking his neck out near the line, beating Miss Attitude by a nose, with Rocking Ends two and a half lengths further back in third.
Democracy Dilemma was withdrawn at the start, while Fair Wind refused to race.
Tatterstall is trained by Michael Dods and was ridden by Connor Beasley, a combination that has previously teamed up to win Goodwood’s Coral Stewards’ Cup with Commanche Falls.
Beasley commented, "Tatterstall has bags of speed, and the key to him is quick ground. He got that today, so we let him bowl away. It was probably knocking good times on the speedo, but he is just in first gear in the first half of the race."
"He wins the race in the first couple of furlongs, and they are all playing catch-up. He’s a great little horse, and it's great to get a good win on him today. He was game all the way to the line, hardy fit, and very determined."
Winning co-owner David Stone said, "Michael has always had this race in mind. Tatterstall has won at Epsom, so we always knew the track would suit him. He pinged the stalls and got an easy lead, although it wasn’t easy at the end."
"We bought him as a yearling from Tattersalls, and his name is a play on that. We will have to ask Michael where we go next; he is the guru."
Jack Channon spoke about Miss Attitude, stating, "I am absolutely delighted with the performance. We backed up after five days, and I wondered whether I was doing the right thing, but she’s come out and put her heart on the line again. She doesn’t know she’s beat, but she got beaten a nose."
"It is frustrating not to bag one of these on the big days, but I’m very happy with her run. We’ll give her a freshen up for a couple of weeks and look for something nice in three weeks’ time. She’s still rated well to go in these nice handicaps."
