Simon & Ed Crisford’s Coto De Caza showcased her immense talent with a dominant display in the British Stallion Studs EBF Alice Keppel Fillies' Conditions Stakes at Goodwood yesterday.
The 2-1 favourite, ridden by Harry Davies, provided the jockey with his first Qatar Goodwood Festival winner, powering to a two-and-a-half-length victory. Storm Call claimed second, with Blue Zodiac a further half-length back in third.
Owned by Mohammed Sultan, the €270,000 Tattersalls Ireland Breeze-Up purchase built on her wide-margin Beverley success to land this valuable prize.
Ed Crisford said: "Coto De Caza is just a little bit flighty and was getting very worked up. To be honest, I thought she had run her race before the start. She's got a lot of talent and class."
The trainer added: "When she won at Beverley, it was a quiet meeting but it's a festival here, lots of people, and very hot. She was particularly getting worked up."
Looking ahead, Crisford suggested: "Maybe something like the Flying Childers might suit her. We've learnt a lot about her today, and it's only her third run. It's about channelling that energy in the right spot now."
Davies, celebrating his breakthrough festival success, said: "Coto De Caza won really nicely at Beverley on soft ground after a nice debut at Lingfield on quite fast ground. She was just a little bit babyish that day."
The jockey added: "We've had to work quite hard to get her to be patient and keep her head. She can just get a little bit wound up. She showed her class because she did everything wrong in the prelims. She hit the line good and she has loads of speed. Hopefully, we'll be able to pick up a Stakes race with her."
With this impressive victory, Coto De Caza has firmly established herself as a exciting prospect for the Crisford team, with bigger targets now firmly on the horizon.
