Last year's The Everest winner Think About It gave punters a scare when coming to grief in Saturday's Gr.3 Sydney Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.
The Joe Pride-trained gelding was travelling wide around the home turn when he stumbled badly, unseating jockey Jason Collett.
A hush fell over the packed Randwick stands as the multiple Group One winner, who was first emergency for this year's The Everest, hit the turf after suffering a bleeding attack.
Bjorn Baker's Overpass took advantage to land the spoils, getting the better of Think About It's stablemate Coal Crusher and Manikato Stakes victor Southport Tycoon.
Collett, who escaped unscathed, rushed to check on his mount and expressed relief at seeing the star sprinter regain his feet.
"I'm OK and amazingly the horse has walked back to the stalls," Collett said. "They don't do that.
"I thought he'd broken down but he's bled out."
Racing NSW stewards confirmed the bleeding episode via social media: "Think About It, which collapsed in Race 6 due to a bleeding attack, has recovered and is under veterinary care.
"(Jockey Jason) Collett was uninjured in the incident and has been cleared to fulfil his riding engagements."
Footage captured by Racenet showed the crowd applauding as Think About It was led off the track, walking back to his race day stall for further assessment.
The incident cast a shadow over an otherwise electric The Everest Day at Randwick, with punters left to ponder what might have been had the Pride stable star taken his place in the $20 million feature.
