The daughter of Curlin out of multiple graded stakes-producing mare Achalaya topped Day Three of the Fasig-Tipton October Yearlings Sale when selling to Gary Barber for US$500,000. The filly, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, will be trained by Mark Casse.
The New York-bred yearling, a half-sister to multiple Gr.1 winner Casa Creed, was previously offered at The Saratoga Sale where she failed to meet her reserve at US$475,000. Her current 2YO half-sister Charlotte's Heart, trained by Casse for Live Oak, broke her maiden at Saratoga before finishing second in a Woodbine stakes race.
"Curlin is one of Gary's favourite sires," said Casse. "I looked at videos and think she has grown up since the Saratoga Sale. She was a little immature then, but she's matured in the last couple of months."
Duncan Taylor of Taylor Made Sales Agency added: "I'm thrilled that we got the US$500,000. I think she's worth every penny of it; she's a beautiful filly. She's just a later-developing filly; we had her at Saratoga, and she's improved so much since then. She's probably going to be a runner because everything the mare throws has been a runner."
Previous notable winners from this sale include Champion Three-Year-Old Filly Midnight Bisou, multiple Grade One winner Mind Control, and Breeders' Cup Sprint victor Runhappy, who collectively earned over US$12 million on the track.
The second-highest price of US$425,000 was achieved by an Into Mischief colt out of Shopit, purchased by Mahmud Mouni for client Emad Tablci. The colt is a half-brother to multiple graded stakes-placed Shoplifted and hails from the family of Gr.1 winner Miss Shop and Preakness Stakes victor Seize the Grey.
The session saw 288 yearlings sold from 342 offered, generating a total of US$14,139,500 with an average of US$49,095 and a median of US$20,000. The RNA rate stood at 15.8% with 54 lots failing to meet their reserves.
Boyd Browning Jr., Fasig-Tipton’s president and CEO observed: "Once again, similar to last night, the sales topper was sold in the last 15 hip numbers. It's been a really fun three days so far, in terms of just seeing the level of energy, the level of activity, it's been encouraging in that regard."
The sale concludes today with Hips 1213-1614 set to go through the ring, with 51 withdrawals reported as of Wednesday evening.
