Senor Buscador, the heroic winner of the US$20 million Gr.1 Saudi Cup, has been dramatically withdrawn from next week's Gr.1 Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park, with connections announcing his immediate retirement.
Owner Joey Peacock Jr broke the news on social media platform X following the son of Mineshaft's final workout, where he clocked four furlongs in :49.75. The gallop failed to satisfy his team, leading to the tough decision.
"Our team was not completely happy the way Senor Buscador came out of his work this morning," Peacock Jr said in the post. "Senor, we will be forever grateful for the ride."
Outstanding Race Record
The Kentucky-bred champion, developed by trainer Todd Fincher, leaves the track with an impressive seven victories from 23 starts, amassing earnings of US$12,944,427. His remarkable career includes triumph in the Gr.3 Ack Ack Stakes at Churchill Downs and the Gr.2 San Diego Handicap at Del Mar.
His Grade One performances were equally notable, securing second in the 2024 Pegasus World Cup and third in both the Awesome Again Stakes and Dubai World Cup. His final racecourse appearance came in the Gr.2 Cigar Mile Handicap at Aqueduct, where he finished ninth.
Plans are now in motion for the bay horse to relocate to Lexington, though his future stud arrangements remain unannounced. Bred by Peacock Jr and his father, Joe Peacock Sr, Senor Buscador retires as one of the most accomplished performers of his generation.
