The UAE has secured a pivotal role in shaping international horse welfare standards after being selected to represent Asia on the Horse Welfare Committee of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities.
The appointment, confirmed during the Asian Racing Federation Executive Council meeting in Hong Kong, marks a significant milestone in the Emirates' growing influence in global racing governance.
Previous representatives on the committee have gone on to implement groundbreaking welfare protocols, including Japan Racing Association's revolutionary veterinary monitoring system and Hong Kong Jockey Club's world-leading injury prevention programme.
Leading the Emirates delegation, Mohammad Saeed Al Shehhi, General Manager and Board Member of the Emirates Racing Authority and Vice-Chair of the Asian Racing Federation, highlighted the federation's commitment to elevating racing standards across the continent.
The council's agenda focused on modernising infrastructure and fostering collaboration between Asian racing jurisdictions, with welfare and safety practices taking centre stage. The move aligns with the region's push towards sustainable racing development, building on the UAE's proven track record in hosting prestigious events like the Gr.1 Dubai World Cup.
The appointment reflects the UAE's growing status as a major force in global racing, with its welfare standards and facilities already matching those of established racing nations. Their selection to the committee positions the Emirates as a key player in shaping future international racing protocols.
