Reigning Champion of the International Jockey Challenge, Australian Caitlin Jones, now knows all of her female opponents for this year’s tournament.
The International Jockey Challenge has intensified even further this morning with the announcement of the final two female riders taking part.
New Zealand will be cheering home a classy hoop in Sam Spratt as she enters the fray hungry for the win. The 38-year-old has 14 Group One wins and has amassed $6 million in prize money across a 22 year long career.
The second jockey announced this morning is the Great Britain hopeful Joanna Mason who has 134 career wins but still hunts that elusive Group victory. She is however far from a slouch and her chances here will come off her desire to turn the trend and get some milestone wins on the board in major races.
The pair join the rest of the announced field in Chantal Sutherland. Delphine Santiago, Jeane Alvez, and the youngest of the female riders in 20-year-old Victoria Alonso.
Five of the seven male riders have been named in Luiz Saez, Bauyrzhan Murzabayev, Japanese champion hoop Yuga Kawada, the talented Joao Moreira and in his final year in the saddle the once in a generation Frankie Dettori.
The International Jockeys Challenge features four handicap races, each run for $400,000, with a further $100,000 prize fund for the challenge itself.
The jockeys are made up of seven international female riders, five international men and two local men with the jockeys receiving 15 percent of prize money won in each of the four races.
All races will consist of 14 runners and five reserves, with all 14 jockeys riding in each race.
Two races will be staged on dirt and two on turf, with the distances ranging from 1200m to 2100m.
