Al Shaqab is galloping into the prestigious Darb Al Saai festivities, setting up camp at Umm Salal from December 10-18. The premier equestrian centre is saddling up to showcase Qatar's rich heritage through a spectacular array of horse-related activities, placing the majestic purebred Arabian breed at the heart of celebrations.
Following in the hoofprints of their ancestors, young visitors will be treated to supervised pony rides, whilst seasoned riders from Al Shaqab's Equine Education Academy demonstrate their masterful horsemanship through heritage shows and traditional parades.
The event harks back to Qatar's storied relationship with Arabian horses, with previous Darb Al Saai celebrations drawing thousands of enthusiasts. Last year's exhibition featured traditional performances by Al Furjan Stables and Al Gharafa Riding School, who dazzled crowds with displays of classical horsemanship.
Speaking about the upcoming festivities, Mohammed Al Khayarin, Manager of the Equine Education Department at Al Shaqab, stated: "National Day is a special occasion to celebrate our country's remarkable achievements and to honor Qatar's rich heritage. Through our participation in Darb Al Saai, we aim to highlight the significance of Arabian horses and their deep-rooted connection to our culture. Our diverse activities are designed to inspire a love for horses among the younger generations, preserving this integral part of our ancestors' legacy."
The nine-day programme promises to transport visitors through time, offering an authentic glimpse into Qatar's equestrian past. Traditional activities will paint a vivid picture of historical life, allowing modern-day guests to experience the customs of their forebears whilst strengthening bonds of national pride and cultural identity.
Families and heritage enthusiasts are being encouraged to attend what promises to be a remarkable celebration of Qatar's equestrian excellence, with the doors open throughout the National Day period.
