Chesspiece, a promising 3YO colt from the renowned Godolphin stable, is set to compete in the final Classic race of the UK season, the Gr.1 St Leger, at Doncaster. With a strong desire to secure Godolphin's eighth victory in this prestigious event, Chesspiece has shown remarkable improvement in his six previous outings under the guidance of trainers Simon and Ed Crisford.
In his most recent race, the talented Nathaniel colt narrowly missed out on victory, finishing a mere neck behind Desert Hero in the highly competitive Gr.3 Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood in early August. This impressive performance showcased Chesspiece's growing potential and served as a testament to his continuous development.
Earlier in July, Chesspiece triumphed in a Listed race at Hamilton, demonstrating his ability to excel against tough competition. Furthermore, he displayed great stamina and determination when he finished third in the challenging Gr.2 Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot, a gruelling mile and six furlongs race.
Chesspiece carries the hopes of Godolphin, aiming to add another remarkable achievement to their already illustrious record in this prestigious Classic race.
Simon Crisford said, “Chesspiece has been stepping up the ladder slowly but surely all year and goes into this in very good form. The recent rain at Doncaster should help and we expect a strongly run mile and six furlongs to play to his strengths. He will have to improve again at this level but possesses all the attributes needed to do so.
