Sword Point is maintaining his perfect dirt record with connections eyeing a bold tilt at the US$12 million Gr.1 Dubai World Cup, trainer Frankie Lor has revealed at Sha Tin.
The 6YO, partnering with Derek Leung, demonstrated his prowess in landing the Class Two Pak Tam Chung Handicap over 1,650m. Breaking from stall five, the gelding tracked Call Me Glorious before unleashing a determined late charge.
Following a stewards' enquiry involving runner-up Capital Delight, Sword Point's victory margin of a length and a quarter remained unchanged. Andrea Atzeni, aboard the Caspar Fownes-trained runner-up, had objected his mount clipped heels approaching the straight.
"When the steward told me there was an objection, I didn't know why, but I saw something happen at the turn when I watched it back," Lor reflected. "But we won by a good margin, and I didn't think Capital Delight would win."
Lor is weighing up two potential Dubai targets - the Gr.1 Dubai World Cup over 2,000m on April 5, where Romantic Warrior awaits, or the Gr.2 Godolphin Mile on March 30.
"There is the 2,000m Group One on April 5 and the 1,600m Group Two as well, both on the dirt, but I'll have to speak to Derek and see what he thinks," Lor said. "I'm not sure yet because I think 1,600m might be a bit short for him."
"Sword Point likes the dirt so we will see if his rating is enough to go to Dubai. Maybe we need to race again to get more points."
