Masoun demonstrated impressive stamina when claiming victory in Leopardstown's apprentice handicap under Wayne Hassett, providing Joseph O'Brien with another winner at the venue. The gelding's determined performance has opened potential opportunities at Royal Ascot.
Racing over nine furlongs, Masoun regained control from Casanova entering the home straight. Hassett immediately began driving his mount forward, with the partnership responding generously to pressure approaching the final furlong marker.
The joint selection swept clear to record a length-and-a-half victory, with Bill Silvers staying on strongly for second place, finishing one and three-quarter lengths ahead of Final Voyage.
O'Brien praised the winning performance, commenting: "Nine or ten furlongs is probably a good trip for him and Wayne gave him a lovely positive ride. If he gets into Ascot next week in a handicap, he'll go, as the owners are over, and hopefully we'll find something for him in the Curragh over Derby weekend."
The victory marked Masoun's third career success, establishing him as an improving performer capable of competing at higher levels.
