Shadwell's Nunnery Stud will charge a fee of £80,000 a year to stand Baaeed, a six-time Gr.I winner and the highest-rated turf horse in the world in 2018.
Baaeed, the best son of Sea the Stars, has won 10 of 11 races and is now charging a price of €180,000 at Aga Khan Studs' Gilltown Stud. "Baaeed's fee reflects his current status as the champion turf horse in the world for 2022," said Stephen Collins, European bloodstock manager for Shadwell.
"It also reflects his impeccable race record and superb pedigree, being a direct descendant of Height Of Fashion (Fr), the dam of top-class performers Nashwan, Nayef, and Unfuwain." Stallions from the Aga Khan Studs in the Sea It looks like the Irish Stars, the French Siyouni, and the French Zarak will all be on the line for price hikes in 2023. Covering at an all-time high of €180,000, Sea The Stars will lead a formidable lineup as the father of the champions Baaeed (GB) and Stradivarius (Ire). Among his 101 stakes winners, 19 are Gr.1 champions, making Sea The Stars the third-leading sire in the world after Dubawi (Ireland) and Frankel (Great Britain). The aforementioned two sons will be added to the British stud roster in the upcoming season, bringing his total number of sons at stud to four. Siyouni (Fr), the current top sire in France, is also on the upswing, with his cost going from €140,000 (after four years at stud standing for €7,000) to €150,000.
More than thirty stakes horses in 2022 were descendants of the British stallion Pivotal (GB), notably the smart juvenile filly Tahiyra (Ire), owned by the Aga Khan and trained by Dermot Weld, who is currently undefeated after taking the Group One Moyglare Stud S. in her second career start. The promising young stallion Zarak rounds out Haras de Bonneval's roster (Fr). Five group winners have come from Dubawi (Ire) and Zarkava (Fr) (Zamindarfirst )'s two harvests, for a stakes winner to runner ratio of 11%. After starting at €12,000 and increasing to €25,000 the previous year, his price is now at €60,000. Dariyan (Fr), a son of Shamardal out of the winner of the Gr.1 Hong Kong Vase, Daryakana (Fr) (Selkirk), rounds up the trio of French stallions with a charge of €5,000.
