The most valuable race on the seven-race card at Meydan was the UAE 1000 Guineas Trial which threw up a surprise in results.
With talk prior to the race being around the Saeed Bin Suroor 2YO Deep Thoughts and the Godolphin master trainer’s dominance over the feature UAE 1000 Guineas.
The other key storyline in the Doug Watson pair of Asawer and Awasef.
However, it was the Salem bin Ghadayer trained Mimi Kakushi who took the spoils backing up from a fourth placing at Meydan over the distance 22 days ago.
The race over the 1400m worth AED183,650 attracted a field of ten in the contest set for fillies and the impressive performance by the eventual winner also marked her maiden win.
From the jump Mimi Kakushi sat in fourth under Mickael Barzalona before being taken up with 800m left of the trip before kicking up and pulling away in the final 200 metres and in the end winning by two lengths.
The Doug Watson pair finished in second (Asawer) and third (Awasef) with two lengths between them again.
Bin Suroor’s runner Deep Thoughts ran last close to twelve lengths off the leader.
Saeed bin Suroor would bounce back into the winner’s circle in race six, the Nad Al Sheba Classic, run over 2000m.
Worth AED 120,000 the race attracted 11 starters with Bin Suroor preparing two in Night of Luxury and Electrical Storm.
It was the older of the two in the 5YO gelding Electrical Storm who would win by 1.75 lengths with Patrick Cosgrove on board.
It was Electrical Storm’s local debut after taking a win in Yorke in June this year after his first start in April 2019 finishing second under Ryan Moore.
In this one after tracking the leaders throughout the journey Cosgrove took him up to hit the lead 500m out and rolled on for what looked a comfortable and easy victory.
The veteran campaigner in the race, Rastrelli, ran second in what was his eighth start at Meydan with the 7YO having won three times in his career and having not been to the races in close to a year (306 days) – making this an impressive performance.
