Zagrey, the third-place finisher in this year's Longines Dubai Sheema Classic, has continued to impress in Europe by winning one of Germany's most prestigious races, the Group One 153rd Wettstar.de Grosser Preis von Baden in Baden-Baden. Yann Barberot's talented horse had previously finished behind Equinox and Westover in the turf contest at Meydan Racecourse in March.
However, both Equinox and Westover have gone on to achieve great success since then. Equinox, trained in Japan, won the Group One Takarazuka Kinen at Hanshin in June, while Westover finished second in the Gr.1 Coronation Cup before winning the Gr.1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, where he defeated Zagrey.
Zagrey's victory in Germany serves as redemption for his earlier defeat against Westover. The race featured a field of six horses, with Henk Grewe's Deutsches Derby runner-up, Mr Hollywood, taking the lead under jockey Lukas Delozier. Zagrey, guided by Christophe Soumillon, comfortably settled in the middle of the pack.
As the race progressed, the group remained tightly-bunched, and as they entered the home stretch, they aggressively shifted from the inner rail to the standside rail.
