On the second day of her trip to the Keeneland September Sale, Sheikha Hissa made another successful purchase on behalf of her family's Shadwell Racing's operation.
She bought a filly by Medaglia d'Oro named Star of Bombay (Hip 384) for US$1.1 million, signing the ticket over the internet.
The filly, consigned by Lane's End Farm, is a half sister to three stakes performers, including Aspray (Quality Road), who won two stakes this year. Hip 384's dam, the Galileo mare Up, was a group two winner in Ireland and Classic-placed in France before being sold for US$2.2 million at the 2015 Keeneland January Sale.
In addition to this purchase, Shadwell Racing also bought a Munnings filly (Hip 280) for US$700,000 from the Taylor Made Sales consignment.
Yesterday's Keeneland September Yearling Sale saw an impressive continuation of the energy and enthusiasm from Day 1, with the second session on 12th September achieving a new record high price of US$3 million.
The Into Mischief colt, sold as Hip 261 and consigned by Lane's End on behalf of breeder Repole Stable, was purchased by L.E.B. acting as agent for Chuck Sonson, Woodford Racing, and West Point Thoroughbreds. This marks the highest price achieved at the sale since 2019.
