Ado McGuinness enjoyed a successful day at Laytown yesterday, as he saddled a double. The talented trainer also took the opportunity to discuss the future plans for his impressive sprinter, Go Athletico.
Having undergone training in France, the 5YO horse proved his worth on his stable debut by winning a prestigious race at Cork in June. Since then, he has consistently finished as the runner-up in two races at the Curragh, notably coming second to Moss Tucker, the triumphant winner of Sunday's Flying Five race, in the Gr.3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes last month.
Regrettably, McGuinness expressed his disappointment in his decision to not participate in the Group One contest on Sunday. However, he is now redirecting his efforts towards preparing his horse for the Prix de l'Abbaye, which will take place on the 1st of October.
"I don't really want to bring up that subject!," quipped the Lusk handler.
"We took him out (of the Group 1 Flying Five) last Tuesday because the ground was too quick. When I saw the ground on Sunday, I left the Curragh a very disappointed man.
"We are going to rock on to the Abbaye with him. He is in great form and he worked super up the Curragh yesterday.
"The form is in the book and I'm looking forward to running him.
"The only thing is a wide draw in Longchamp is a disaster and I just pray to God with Go Atheltico that can we get a nice low draw with him for the Abbaye, and I think he will run a massive race."
When asked about his talented young racehorse Tiger Belle, who recently won the Group Three Prix d'Arenberg at ParisLongchamp over a five-furlong distance, the trainer replied, "She will be competing in the Breeders' Cup."
"At this stage, it is probably 70/30 she will go to America (instead of the Abbaye).
"Longchamp is a very lucky place for me so far!"
