Unfortunately, Desert Hero, considered a potential contender for the Melbourne Cup by the King and Queen of England, will not be participating this year. Despite receiving a clean bill of health from the vet, it was decided to withdraw him from the race after he placed third at Doncaster.
“Desert Hero won’t run in the Melbourne Cup. We thought he had a tough race at Doncaster, and we want to give him more time.” Trainer William Haggas explained
“He passed the tests we put him through so we had to make a decision.
“He’ll have a nice break now.
“We wouldn’t rule out running him in the race in the future – and we hope his is bright.”
Fans of the Melbourne Cup are left wondering if Desert Hero will make a return in upcoming editions, as his absence this year is notable.
